We're Here For You!
Do I need to make an appointment?
We advise customers to make an appointment so we can allocate the appropriate amount of time to give you our undivided attention and the best possible service.
How much will I pay for a custom suit?
The price of our tailored suits are determined by the cloth and the construction you choose. A two piece semi-custom suit starts at $850 and increases in $150 increments depending on the fabric you select. You then add $350 for a fully hand made suit. Shirts start at $110.
What is the difference between semi-custom and fully custom?
Semi-custom suits are started from our block pattern from which we create a unique paper pattern for the client. Our fully custom suits are crafted from a unique paper pattern for every customer and every order. Our semi-custom suits offer some of the finer finishes of fine hand made tailoring but without the fully custom price tag.
What are your standard terms of payment?
We charge for all of our garments up front. This enables us to pay for the fabric, trimmings and other vital suppliers up front, which gets us better pricing. We then pass on these savings to our customers.
Do you have gift cards?
How many visits does it take to craft my suit?
We don’t specify a minimum number of visits or fittings but on average it’s between 1-2 fittings for a suit after your initial measuring session.
Can you explain the process?
Schedule an appointment, choose your fabric and styling details, have your measurements taken and from here, the making process begins. We contact you to schedule a time at your convenience to come in to try on your garments to ensure a perfect fit.
Will my measurements be filed for future orders?
Yes. Once your paper pattern is drafted, it is adjusted at each fitting to ensure the perfect fit for your future orders.
Do you offer alteration services?
Yes. We offer alteration to our suits and garments made by others.
Can I have my suit delivered to me?
We are happy to ship your suit after you’ve had a final fitting and we even offer home/business delivery service of your garments in select locations.
Where can I park?
Most of our clients park on the street which is metered parking. There are local garages that are convenient and in walking distance to our location.
Are there convenient places to eat and other things to do where your located?
Being located in historic Annapolis places us in the center of a number of things to do, see and which also offer great food and fine dining expericences.

What is the most important reason to have custom shirts made?
Making the face look good is the most important reason to have custom shirts made. When meeting for business or social occasions, a person’s face should be the focal point of attention. The design of the collar below the face has a significant impact on the way the face shape is perceived. Utilizing the skills of custom shirt-making, and evaluating face shape and neck length, the collar is designed to create a harmonious effect, complementing each individual in a unique fashion.
Fitted shirts are in high demand, and we have no problem in making sure that the body of the shirt will be as fitted as the customer requires.
How much does a custom shirt cost and how many do I have to purchase?
There is no minimal number of shirts when ordering, we want you to feel comfortable with the service and the finish product. We are convinced that once you try our custom shirts you will be back for more.
Our average custom shirts range from $175 to $200. There is a good, better, best range in our fabric selection with better shirts with much higher thread count that range from $235 to $295. In the best category are the premium shirt fabrics from the mills of Loro Piana, Testa, Thomas Mason, and others which fall into a price range of $350-$550. There is no difference in how we build the shirts or design them, only a difference in the cost of the materials.
How do I know the shirt will fit?
We take up to 25 measurements to guarantee a comfortable fit. Fit however is subjective, and different people like different types of fit. At Capital, we use actual try-on shirts to let people experience the look and feel of different aspects before a shirt is made. We use sample collars, try-on chest blocks, and even sample cuffs to allow a customer to feel and react to different sizes before we build. It is also an option when placing a large order (like a dozen) to have one shirt made first, before the rest are cut, so the client has a chance to feel the fit.
Do all of my shirts have to be the same?
Absolutely not. You can choose different materials for each shirt from the hundreds we show. You can vary the collar, cuff, pockets, button closures, and other details at will. Sometimes varying the styles dramatically neccessitates extra charges, primarily if the bodies cannot be cut together.
How long will my custom shirts last?
Some cotton weaves are sturdier than others by up to 30 percent. Starch chemicals degrade cotton, so two identical shirts will vary based on the instructions light starch or heavy (we recommend light or no starch). The simplest answer is approximately two years, if worn in a rotation of every other week, or about 50 wearings. Anything beyond this we consider bonus miles. Shirts usually wear out in one of three areas- collar edge, cuff edge, or elbow. A heavy beard, a sharp watch band, or a lot of “phone elbow” will precipitate premature wear, and should be discussed with us.
What about shrinkage?
Shrinkage is a difficult area for the shirt maker to tackle: here is how we approach it. All quality shirtmakers understand the need to build in shrinkage allowances. Specific amounts are added in the collar, shoulder yoke, cuff, and sleeve length, allowing the shirt to shrink to its final size during the first 3-7 launderings. Unfortunately, many shirtmakers use collar interlinings that cannot withstand the high heat of commercial laundry collar presses, and so many shirt collars shrink below the size they are supposed to be.
When will my custom suit or shirt be ready?
Production times vary depending on the workload at any given time but typically we advise 6-8 weeks for our suits and 4-5 weeks for our shirts.
